Home Efficiency Checkups

As a homeowner, you’ve probably wondered...

  • Am I paying too much each month for utilities?
  • How energy efficient is my home?
  • What can I do to reduce my bills?

Green Gate Homes can help by providing you with a snapshot of how much energy you currently use and what can be done to lower your monthly utility bills.

Our clients are often surprised to see how much they pay over the course of a year for their utilities. Most of us pay the same bills month after month, and we begin to lose track of how much it costs to operate our homes.

After determining your energy usage patterns, we provide you with a list of energy-saving actions tailored to your unique situation.  By selecting some or all of these actions, you can begin to reduce your energy consumption and monthly bills.

Green Gate Homes provides you with this information via a Home Efficiency Checkup (HEC). The HEC program was developed by Greenandsave.com, one of America’s leading free ‘green’ home remodeling resources.

The HEC experience begins with some simple preparations on your part.  We request that you have the following items on hand when we arrive:

  • Your last 12 months' worth of utility bills

-or-

  • Your latest utility bills and a record of how much you paid for each utility over the past year

The latest bills allow us to determine exactly how much you are paying for each utility in terms of units (i.e., per gallon).  The record of how much you've paid helps us determine how much fuel and energy you've been using.

A trained and certified HEC professional will visit your home for approximately one and a half to two hours (depending on the size of your home). He or she will record the information described above, followed by

some basic questions about your home.  The next step is a thorough walk-through of your property, both

inside and out.

After your on-site visit, you will receive two reports, either electronically or through the mail in two to three business days.

Note: We suggest electronic delivery of your reports as it is quicker and saves paper.

Report #1

The Introductory Report describes the 'state of the union' of your home. It lists:

  • How much you spend each month on your utilities
  • Exactly how much energy you are using
  • How you compare to other homes across the country

Report #2

The Home Efficiency Checkup Report lists:

  • All the actions you can take and/or improvements you can make to your home
  • The expected return on investment (ROI) for each action item

Some action items are short term with quick results, and others are more long-term projects.
Each HEC Report will be customized for your home based on your unique situation and needs.

The retail cost of the HEC is $395.00. At the beginning of your on-site visit, you will receive a list of quick actions you can complete in under an hour that can potentially save you over $500 a year, so you've already more than covered the cost of the checkup in very little time.

To schedule your HEC, call us at 484-204-2068 or email us at hec@greengatehomes.com.
